Eight Teaching of ASTHABRATA

ASTHABRATA

Marsono describes each eight teaching of Asthabrata by providing text quotes as contained in the Serat Rama Jarwa Macapat, Nitisruti and the Old Javanese Kakawin Ramayana.

1. Sang Hyang Indra is the God of Rain. It has the nature of providing what is needed on earth, providing prosperity and giving rain on earth.

2. Sang Hyang Yama is the God of Death. It eradicates bad and evil deeds indiscriminately.

3. Sang Hyang Surya is the God of Sun. His nature is slow, unhurried, patient, compassionate and wise.

4. Sang Hyang Candra is the God of the Moon, he is always gentle, friendly and patient with everyone.

5. Sang Hyang Bayu is the God of Wind. He can enter anywhere in all corners of the world without difficulty. All good or bad behavior, rough or complicated in the world can be known by him without the person concerned knowing it. He saw the situation as well as providing welfare through it.

6. Sang Hyang Kuwera is the God of Wealth. It is tenacious in trying to accumulate wealth for the welfare of its citizens. He is a funder.

7. Sang Hyang Baruna is the God of the Ocean. The nature of the Ocean can accommodate all river water with everything that flows in it. But the ocean did not spill. Hyang Baruna like the ocean can accommodate anything that is bad or good. He is patient and insightful, very broad, as wide as the ocean.

8. Sang Hyang Brama is the God of Fire. nature of fire can burn scorch and destroy any object. He can also give a lamp in the darkness of Hyang Brama like fire can eradicate enemies and all evil at the same time can be a lamp for humans who are in a state of darkness.
